1.
Glad to see a friend Hoody zipped up to your chin Self-conscious and cold Games on torn paper Folding writing and smiling The lovers play on Frozen like the past Another brief encounter Slips by in a glance Footprints losing you Through a haze of drifting dust No one seems to mind Crossing the border Dazzled by a memory The passenger waits
2.
Winter 03:38
I walk by myself The daylight seems uneasy And wild geese take flight As evening fragments This biting opal sunset So be in winter Sleep where do you go Just scalding drinks to comfort Enough of waiting A veil not lifted Streetlights touch curtains of mist Now morning returns Endings do not move Like the freshly fallen snow It is time to leave
3.
Drifting 03:43
A city of dreams My home no more just a name Giving up on it To be anywhere This disappointing journey He was chanting prayers All the time writing I’ll tell you what else she does She tries to be true At the thief’s picnic It was the start of something My heart leaps no more What is the limit Do you talk to him I ask Of this denial I prefer this place She never really shapes it Knowing the system Then stick with drifting Surrounded by these people You haven’t missed me
4.
April 02:42
Her waist slim and pale She just lay on a table Soaking up the sun Her coffee stained top Unfading she looked away A coat round her legs Yet she liked my songs Needing sunsets not people I never found her Not speaking of home She always cut things too short I couldn’t see it Tempers running low Lost in morning reflection Now waiting to shine
5.
Unspoken 04:21
I heard it in one place then in another Washed away by the tides of time I wonder what happened to all those friends Out of date the subways sounds It didn’t feel right No escaping anymore A time to step back I recall early morning eggs and coffee With not much to talk about Touching the past these places and feelings Almost lonely shifting round Words I should have said Things I wish had never been This counterfeit time
6.
The Siege 03:10
Were I a soldier I’d march in wellington boots Sometimes a hero To a purer way What we create we destroy From idle pleasure Where is the glory Beliefs undermine beliefs Shaping their victims A sip of water Luck granted a longer day But the siege goes on That island of doubt Beyond an indigo field The drummer still plays
7.
Missing the first line I hear too many voices The shaking of heads In the warm evening Seeing today from afar The edges so sweet This imperfection Even through the lonely days Still shares its reward There is no wisdom A resignation of time Takes all of my names So am I a fool Sunlight obscures my vision A hidden kindness Is there no wisdom A resignation of time Takes all of my names
8.
Shadow 03:43
Closing her laptop she smiles The sea breeze finds a distant wind chime Hopeful of stealing the afternoon Lost friendships clutter the past My shadow unrecognised Left behind when she came back Thoughts trickle through my fingers You finish playing a song We are hostage to the singer Wrapped in a white towel Bare feet in old hiking boots You hold me for a brief kiss These songs with their vain words Catch us when we least expect Like the changing tide Lost friendships clutter the past My shadow unrecognised Left behind when she came back
9.
Forgiveness 03:09
Never sinking deep Our eyes ever let us down Cheating the hunger You go in headfirst A fleeting moment of faith But all are betrayed To a jealous god Dishonesty is the truth Wasting forgiveness It is forgotten Whatever took place before Dissolving like time Whisper of faint days Memory is always flawed As the summer joy
10.
You came from nowhere Like the gentle evening breeze Lost in modern times An eclipse of dreams Fire smolders in the hearth You drift back to sleep Through the common streets Out of breath and out of luck Another wrong turn Fading with the spring You still have a poets eyes Untouched by seasons
11.
Sunstroke 03:15
He left his childhood friend Not knowing who to trust Flying faraway Touching eyes afresh A trip important as life The rhythm of sadness High above the hills Time to think of wasted years Crushed by silence So he remembers Bright sun casts a dark shadow Sunstroke again Sacrificing the past Was it coincidence of choice He knew he was letting go Looking for a cure Sipping ice with bitter apple Longing to go home
